Two VFLs on opposing sidelines in upcoming Super Bowl.

KNOXVILLE — A pair of former University of Tennessee football players will play on the National Football League’s grand stage early next month when Kansas City tangles with San Francisco in Miami for Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Dustin Colquitt, the punter for the Chiefs and 49ers’ defensive back Emmanuel Moseley will be on opposing sidelines.

Kansas City, won the AFC West and was the conference’s second seed in the playoffs.

Colquitt, a Knoxville product and graduate of Bearden High School where he played football and soccer for the Bulldogs, punted three times in the Chiefs’ 35-24 victory over the sixth-seeded Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday.

Moseley, a rookie for the 49ers, became a starter in the midst of the 2019 season.

He had four solo tackles and intercepted Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers in top-seeded San Francisco’s 37-20 victory over the Packers at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.

The Chiefs are 1-1 all time in Super Bowl, losing Super Bowl I to Green Bay 35-10 on Jan. 15, 1967 in Los Angeles. The Chiefs were the American Football League champions.

Kansas City won Super Bowl IV over the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7, at Tulane Stadium.

San Francisco has played in six Super Bowls, winning five. The 49ers have beaten Cincinnati twice (1981, 1988). They also have wins over Miami, Denver and San Diego in the big game.

San Francisco lost in their last Super Bowl appearance when they fell to the Baltimore Ravens following the 2012 season.

That game was the first Super Bowl where the two head coaches as Jim and John Harbaugh matched wits against each other. John coached Baltimore while Jim was the head man at San Francisco.

John remains the Ravens’ coach while Jim is now the head coach at Michigan, his alma mater.
