The 2023 recruiting cycle is coming to a close as teams are putting the finishing touches on their classes. As the focus will shift to future classes like 2024 and 2025, there is still the chance that a prospect from next year could reclassify and join a program right away.
And the North Carolina Tar Heels have two candidates from their No. 1 class in 2024.
Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports listed the top candidates to reclassify from 2024 to 2023, and the first two mentioned are Ian Jackson and Elliot Cadeau.
Both prospects are five-star recruits that are key pieces to UNC’s 2024 recruiting class. However, with spots still open in 2023, either one could move into that class at North Carolina. It does feel like Cadeau would be the likely option there as Jackson has flirted with the idea but does plan on staying in 2024 as of now.
Here is the analysis of Jackson via 247Sports:
Analysis: One of the more athletic prospects in the high school game, Ian Jackson has quick-twitch fibers that should serve him well in the ACC. He has a quick first step, great defensive potential, and is potent at reading the second level of a defense. While he could work for more consistency with his jumper, his athleticism will give him a great shot at making an early impact on both ends of the floor when he arrives.
And the analysis of Cadeau:
Analysis:Elliot Cadeau is arguably the best point guard in the national junior class. The 6-foot-1 lead guard has been rumored to reclass for some time, and a decision shouldbe made by summer’s end.
Pledged to the Tar Heels, Cadeau combines great burst and change of direction with a high level feel for the game. His game is college ready and he is currently proving his worth by racking up the assist totals on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring.
If either prospect were to reclassify, a decision would have to come soon as the deadline is looming. It would also help Hubert Davis and his staff get a more clear look of what to expect for next season in terms of the roster.
