The Maxwell Award is given to the College Player of the Year and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a standout player at Swarthmore College. A panel of media members and NCAA coaches decide on the winner, which will be given out during the December ESPN Home Depot College Awards Show. Semifinalists will be unveiled on November 26.

Other notable quarterbacks to join Allar as a nominee on the watch list included Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Georgia’s Carson Beck, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Missouri’s Brady Cook, Florida’s Graham Mertz and Texas’ Quinn Ewers.

Some standout running backs that join Singleton on the list include Michigan’s Donovan Edwards, Georgia’s Trevor Etienne, Ohio State’s Quinshon Judkins, Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II, Rutgers’ Kyle Monagai and California’s Jaydn Ott.

Michael Penix Jr. won the award last year for his performances as a member of the Washington Huskies after USC’s Caleb Williams took home the honor in 2022. A quarterback has won the Maxwell Award in seven of the last eight college football seasons.
