Two Notre Dame freshmen ruled out for season with shoulder injuries

Tough break for these players.

No injury ever is a good thing, but one on your shoulder in particular prevents you doing almost everything on a football field. That has become the reality for a pair of Notre Dame freshmen on opposite sides of the ball. Those freshmen are safety [autotag]Taebron Bennie-Powell[/autotag] and offensive lineman [autotag]Styles Prescod[/autotag].

Two days before the Irish were set to open their season against Texas A&M, they gave injury updates on those two along with freshman safety [autotag]Tae Johnson[/autotag]. While the prognosis for Johnson’s season is more promising, the same can’t be said for Bennie-Powell and Prescod per this release:

This undoubtedly is a tough break for both players considering they were so close to the season starting. Alas, they’ll have to wait another year to make their college football debuts.

From the Irish’s perspective, while they have enough talent in their secondary, the depth to their offensive line has taken yet another hit. We’ll see how much, if at all, the numerous injuries to that unit become a liability to the team.
