Lost in the chaos of Colorado football’s dominant Week 5 win over UCF, head coach Deion Sanders revealed Saturday that veteran linebackers Trevor Woods and Jeremiah Brown have asked to redshirt the remainder of this season.
Woods and Brown appeared in each of Colorado’s first four games before sitting out against UCF, meaning the two seniors will remain sidelined for the rest of the season to maintain a year of eligibility.
Woods, who has been with the Buffs since 2021, moved from safety to linebacker midway through last season. After recording 56 total tackles and two interceptions in 2023, he’ll finish this year with 14 total tackles, including one TFL.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Brown spent his first two college seasons playing for Coach Prime at Jackson State before following him to Boulder. Brown recorded 11 total tackles last season and six this year.
Moving forward, expect LaVonta Bentley and Nikhai Hill-Green to continue leading the charge at inside linebacker. Jaylen Wester, the younger brother of Colorado wide receiver LaJohntay Wester, could also see time following an impressive showing against UCF.
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said LBs Trevor Woods and Jeremiah Brown have elected to redshirt and sit out the rest of the season.
