The 2022 NFL draft is still two weeks away, but that isn’t stopping some from looking towards the 2023 draft.
In fact, on Wednesday, David Kenyon of Bleacher Report put together a list of Future NFL draft prospects to watch in 2023, and a couple of Aggie defensive backs found their way onto the list.
The first Aggie named on the list is Antonio Johnson, the 6-3, 200 pound junior defensive back who played mostly as a slot defender in 2021. As a sophomore, Johnson registered 58 total tackles, one interception and one pass break up, while allowing only 5.6 yards per reception in his coverage according to Pro Football Focus, finishing 2nd team AP All-SEC, and 1st team PFF All-American in 2021.
The next Aggie on the list is safety Demani Richardson. In 2021, the 6-1 210 pound safety was extremely productive, recording 65 tackles, 6.5 for loss, 2 sacks, an interception, and 4 passes broken up. Richardson made the decision to return to the Aggies for 2022 despite being eligible to enter the draft, and he will look to build on his junior season and lead the Aggies defense in the fall.
