The Tennessee Titans had some tough decisions to make at the wide receiver position, as the battle for the last remaining spots was a fierce one, which in turn led to wideouts Mason Kinsey and Dez Fitzpatrick getting cut.
Kinsey was certainly deserving of a spot, and if not for the Titans’ particular situation at the position he likely would have made the initial 53-man roster.
As for Fitzpatrick: his exclusion from the 53-man roster was somewhat of a surprise, although it wasn’t totally shocking.
Yes, he struggled mightily with drops in the preseason and training camp, but he did show some flashes in exhibition play and the Titans also just picked him in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft after trading three picks to move up to select him.
This doesn’t necessarily mean Fitzpatrick is done in Nashville, though. The Titans could put him on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Here’s a look at the reaction on Twitter. You can check out the Titans’ initial 53-man roster right here.
For every Dez Fitzpatrick or Isaiah Wilson
JRob has had an AJ Brown, Elijah Molden, Derrick Henry, Jeffery Simmons, Amani Hooker, Kristian Fulton, Nate Davis#Titans

In hindsight, the Dez Fitzpatrick move looks even worse for the #Titans considering they had a better WR prospect in their lap the night before the 4th round.
Amari Rodgers was there for the taking at #85, before the team traded the pick away to Green Bay.

Jon Robinson has shown several times that he’s not afraid to admit when he made a mistake and move on….
But cutting Dez Fitzpatrick was QUICK #Titans

I think it’s time for the #Titans to retire Jersey No. 10:
– Vince Young (2006-10)
– Jake Locker (2011-14)
– Tre McBride (2015-17)
– Adam Humphries (2018-20)
– Dez Fitzpatrick (2021)— Austin Stanley (@AustinStanley81) August 31, 2021
I am wholly unsurprised by this. I'll also not be surprised when he passes through waivers unclaimed. A really bad draft pick in what otherwise looks like a pretty solid haul for Jon Robinson so far. https://t.co/VExkY6gbWI

I've been saying this for a while now, but Jon Robinson really isn't all that good at drafting from top to bottom. There have been a lot of big misses.

One thing I wanna add about the Dez Fitzpatrick cut
I believe the performance of Chester Rogers and Marcus Johnson had more to do with the decision than the performance of Fitzpatrick
Some perspective for the fans that are angry at Jon Robinson #Titans

Titans gave up 3 picks to get #109 for Dez Fitzpatrick in the 4th round. He failed to make the roster.
Even-ish by the Jimmy Johnson chart, but a huge loss of value based on PFF WAR.
There are no guarantees. More opportunities is always better for non-QBs. Stop trading up! pic.twitter.com/mNOsqVV3hD

The Titans traded up and took WR Dez Fitzpatrick in the 4th round and…. cut him?
I had him to the Giants in the 6th.

Dez Fitzpatrick is sort of a surprise to me as a cut since he was also a drafted player. But keep in mind, players aren’t just cut because a team doesn’t want them, they are also cut because a team thinks they didn’t show enough tape to get snagged by another team. #Titans
— Howie The Titan (@howie_thetitan) August 31, 2021
It even says more that Dez Fitzpatrick got cut when the Titans only had to cut to 62 players today due to nine players being on the covid list.

Titans go out and cut Dez Fitzpatrick. Really hoping it was a room on the roster problem rather than talent. Either way it’s hard not to remember we have Julio freaking Jones one the field now. Can’t say I’m mad at JRob
