The Tennessee Titans made a potentially significant addition on Thursday after claiming former Houston Texans linebacker Zach Cunningham off waivers.
Cunningham ran into multiple disciplinary issues with the Texans, leading to his release. The last straw was the 27-year-old not showing up for a COVID-19 test ahead of the Week 13 contest against the Indianapolis Colts.
However, one has to wonder how much those issues had to do with the Vanderbilt product simply wanting out of what is a dumpster fire of an organization.
Pure speculation on my part, of course, but I digress…
Not only is Tennessee adding a Pro Bowl-caliber player who led the NFL in tackles last season, but they’re doing so at a position where the team is dealing with multiple injuries, including to starter David Long.
Making this move look even better is the fact that Cunningham is only owed $275,000 the rest of the season, and he has no guaranteed money in the final three years of his deal unless he gets injured (that’s for 2022 only), which means the Titans can cut him and not owe a dime if things don’t work out.
As you can imagine, Titans Twitter (and the rest of football Twitter, really) was totally on board with bringing Cunningham to Nashville.
