The 2020 college football season is going to look a lot different than what we’ve seen in the past, and that’s to be expected given the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic.
As a part of the changes, LSU has introduced new “splash shields” to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the move isn’t exactly one that’s been well-received.

Many were concerned about players having trouble breathing or seeing if the shield fogged up during a game.

This is a larger health risk than COVID-19 imo.

This will be suffocating for the players. A visor in the summer is damn near unbearable. This wont last long.

It seems the players share some similar sentiments, with offensive lineman Austin Deculus saying it was like “breathing in a Ziploc bag” and linebacker Soni Fonua also expressing concern about breathing in the helmet.
It will be interesting to see how effective the design proves to be in a real in-game situation later this season.
LSU is set to begin the season against the Ole Miss Rebels on Sept. 16 in Tiger Stadium.
