The Jacksonville Jaguars said they didn’t think tight end was an “absolute necessity” to select in the 2023 NFL draft, but they didn’t wait long to address the position.
After a small trade down in the second round to acquire another fifth-round pick, the Jaguars drafted Penn State tight end Brenton Strange.
Here’s a collection of reactions from Twitter to the selection:
#Jaguars had just three tight ends on the roster this year. Evan Engram, Luke Farrell and Gerrit Prince.
Brenton Strange becomes the favorite already to be the second target.

Interesting pick for the #Jaguars when Darnell Washington was still out there. Can't say I've heard of Brenton Strange.

Brenton Strange was drafted with pick 61 of round 2 in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 9.09 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 102 out of 1105 TE from 1987 to 2023. https://t.co/Apw5zXGmEs pic.twitter.com/sREwcpMOv5

The @Jaguars got Trevor Lawrence another top notch weapon. Brenton Strange has great Yac ability. And he is a fearless blocker in the run game. The jags gonna be able to run or throw at will.

Penn State TE Brenton Strange is just the second tight end the Jaguars have drafted in the first two rounds in franchise history. The other is Marcedes Lewis, who owns franchise records for most catches, receiving yards, and TDs by a tight end.

What offensive player will the @Jaguars draft in rounds 3,4,5,6 and 7? Guess we aren’t addressing defense this year.

Brenton Strange is a really solid TE prospect who can play in-line for the Jaguars. He’s one of the better blockers and can create after the catch. Plays really hard. Here’s a wild play he made: pic.twitter.com/G5gYvkwFwr

Loading up on offense for the QB is what we've all watched real teams do. It's us, real team

Jags take Penn St TE Strange, sorry would’ve rather moved up for Mayer or LaPorta , doesn’t make sense to me

Strange finished his collegiate career at Penn State with 11 touchdown receptions.
