It didn’t take long for the NCAA tournament to deliver a stunning upset. No. 13 seed Furman toppled No. 4 Virginia in the dying seconds on Thursday afternoon, and it took a miracle sequence for the Paladins to survive and advance.
Furman staged a comeback from a double-digit deficit in the second half, and Garrett Hien made two clutch free throws with 19 seconds left to pull the Paladins within two.
Needing to force a turnover, Furman pressured Virginia veteran Kihei Clark into launching the ball from the baseline to the other end of the court, but Hien was there to steal the ball out of the air and quickly pass ahead to JP Pegues.
