Tua Tagovailoa not worried about other QB’s contract talks, focused on earning his own

Tua Tagovailoa sees the contracts other QBs are receiving, but he says he wants to earn his and will do so in 2023.

It feels like every year for the past four years, we have all been saying that Tua Tagovailoa’s next season is his most important one yet. Maybe it’s because the sentiment rings true every offseason. Whether it’s proving he has the arm strength, the decision-making abilities, or leadership qualities, he’s always having to prove something.

In 2023, he will have one major obstacle: showing the Miami Dolphins front office that he has the ability to stay healthy for a full season, or at the very least, most of a full season.

Last year, Tagovailoa put up impressive numbers when he was healthy. However, his inability to stay on the field hurt the team and the injuries he suffered made headlines as some scary concussions worried fans and players across the league.

The Dolphins, which selected Tagovailoa No. 5 overall in the 2020 NFL draft, exercised the fifth-year option on Tagovailoa’s rookie contract.

The Los Angeles Chargers, which drafted former Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert No. 6 overall in 2020, recently gave Herbert a massive extension that’s five years and worth $262.5 million. Astronomical money.

Before Herbert received a historically large contract extension, former Alabama teammate of Tagovailoa Jalen Hurts received one from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tagovailoa recently spoke on Herbert’s extension and what it means for him. According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, he is very calm about the whole thing.

“It’s really good for the quarterback market. It gets me excited. It gets me going. For me, this is something I need to work for,” said Tagovailoa.

It’s clear that the former Alabama star quarterback is only focused on this season. He’s proven he can be the franchise quarterback if healthy. The team’s front office has put him in a position to succeed.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Tua Tagovailoa and other former Alabama players now in the NFL.
