Tua Tagovailoa believes he’ll receive a long-term contract from Dolphins

Miami’s QB believes he’ll get a big payday with the Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins are done playing football, but a number of their players are competing in the Pro Bowl Games throughout the weekend, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa was voted into his first Pro Bowl this year after sitting career highs in completion percentage (69.3%), passing yards (4,624 – which led the NFL) and 29 touchdowns.

Heading into his fifth season in the league, 2024 is a contract year for the quarterback, as he’s set to be a free agent in 2025.

At the Pro Bowl Games, Tagovailoa was asked if a long-term contract with the Dolphins is in his future.

“I believe that will happen, but I’m going to let my agents, going to let Chris (Grier), Mike (McDaniel), let those guys talk about that, and let them move forward accordingly,” Tagovailoa said. “We all know there are some changes to our coaching staff. I think there will continue to be changes all over throughout this offseason. As we look at it, it’s going to be a new team, new outlook. Hopefully, we can keep a lot of guys as well. I think the main thing is getting together as much as we can throughout this offseason with the guys that are going to be here and get that work in.”

Miami has some incentive to pay Tagovailoa before the final year of his contract, as they can lower his 2024 cap hit, which is set to be $23.17 million on the fifth-year option. The Dolphins need to clear space, and that’s an easy way to clear a fair amount before the official start of the league year.
