One year ago, we at Trojans Wire decided to do something special. We sat down with an Oklahoma football expert to record 12 podcast episodes on Lincoln Riley. We called the series “The Riley Files” and published all 12 podcast recordings here at Trojans Wire. The series was a deep dive into a particular subject of interest for USC fans.
This summer, we’re launching another extended podcast series on our Trojans Wired podcast, produced by Ian Hest. This year, we chose the University of Iowa as our subject. Why Iowa? First, we have a College Wire site at Iowa. Hawkeyes Wire is edited by Josh Helmer, and we want to spotlight the work Josh is doing with his team at Hawkeyes Wire.
Second, USC and Iowa have a unique bond among Big Ten schools. USC’s two greatest and most important figures — the two people who had the most impact on USC football and USC athletics — came from Iowa. They were Hawkeyes before they were Trojans. We’re talking about USC football program patriarch Howard Jones and USC sports icon Sam Barry. They were both great coaches at Iowa before they went to USC.
If you want to learn all about University of Iowa sports, this summer series is for you. We thank Josh Helmer for being so generous with his time.
There will be 10 episodes in this series. The first episode, shared below, is on the complicated legacy of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz. Enjoy and share!
