The sky-high expectations for USC quarterback Kedon Slovis entering his sophomore season continue to get even higher.
Slovis has now been named to the Maxwell award watch list. The Maxwell award is given every year to the nation’s best all-around player.
Although it has been around since 1936, it has only gone to a Trojan three times: Marcus Allen in 1981, Charles White in 1979 and O.J. Simpson in 1968.
Among the nation’s elite.

Slovis is one of eight PAC-12 players to make the watch list, a group that includes Penei Sewell and CJ Verdell (Oregon) Max Borghi (Washington State) and four quarterbacks: Jayden Daniels (Arizona State) Davis Mills (Stanford) Jake Bentley (Utah) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA).
Former Stanford quarterback K.J. Costello, now with Mississippi State, is on the list as well.
Slovis dominated his true freshman season at USC, completing over 70% of his passes for 3,502 yards and an excellent 30-to-9 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
If he can improve on those numbers, he will have a decent chance of winning this award, and could challenge for a Heisman Trophy as well.
