Trish Stratus return might not be all it seems

Doesn’t Trish’s aid to Becky Lynch and Lita feel a little too good to be true?

When Trish Stratus made her recent return, it was a feel good story all around. Not only were WWE fans overjoyed to see the WWE Hall of Famer back in the fold just in time for the stretch run to WrestleMania (where she’ll compete in her first match in almost four years), Stratus provided a needed ally for Becky Lynch and Lita to even the numerical odds in their battle against Damage CTRL.

But if the whole thing feels almost too good to be true, you might be right to be suspicious.

(Consider this a spoiler warning for potential upcoming WWE storyline developments.)

Rumors have been floating around that Stratus will eventually turn on her allies with an eye toward a program between her and Lynch that could lead to a match at SummerSlam. Dave Meltzer addressed those whispers in his latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), saying that he had heard them for some time but the only thing he could confirm was that there were “twists and turns coming.”

A Trish-Becky program would make a lot of sense. Turning Stratus heel would allow Lynch to remain the fan favorite in a hypothetical feud, which feels right considering she has crowds on her side for now and her current face run hasn’t been going on all that long.

As well, despite Lynch and Lita winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, Becky is taking a bit of a backseat to other top women’s stars at WrestleMania 39. Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley are said to be slated for the main event slot on night 1, while Bianca Belair and Asuka are receiving plenty of build for their Raw Women’s Championship match as well.

Lynch has already faced all of those women except Ripley a number of times in high profile matches, so having her work with Stratus would give her a way to have a big singles match at SummerSlam with a matchup that’s still fresh. Keep a close eye on Stratus at WrestleMania and beyond to see if this is indeed where WWE is headed.
