Savion Byrd, LG
Former four-star prospect [autotag]Savion Byrd[/autotag] was the newest starter chosen to slot in on the offensive line.
Byrd was highly recruited but hadn’t broken through until this past offseason. He had a good showing against Florida State in the Cheez-It Bowl. In the offseason, Byrd added some good weight to his frame and used spring and summer to take the job. In his first test against Arkansas State, he passed with flying colors.
He led the team with an 81.7 pass-blocking grade per Pro Football Focus.
SMU deploys a massive nose tackle in the middle of their defense named Jordan Miller. Miller is listed as 6-foot-4 and around 330 pounds. Byrd will have his hands full, helping his center, Andrew Raym, try to keep Miller from disrupting the Oklahoma running game.
We’ll learn more about Byrd by the end of the game Saturday.
