Treylon Burks, First Round Receiver and All-American Hog Hunter

Former Razorback Treylon Burks shares a story about an activity he used to partake in while he was young.

Former Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks is participating in the NFL Scouting Combine this week, as he prepares to improve his stock for the NFL Draft taking place in late April.

Entering the week, the size and quickness of Burks’ hands were the topic of discussion, as he wears a size 4X glove to catch footballs with. But, once he arrived at the combine, he announced that he used those hands for something other than football growing up… hunting hogs.

That’s right. Treylon Burks hunted feral hogs with his bare hands as a child growing up in Warren, Ark.

What is the best method for hunting hogs with your bare hands, according to Burks?

“You have to go out there with dogs and dogs go out and find them and then we come up behind them and tackle them, take them down,” says Burks.

There’s an old saying that goes “there’s a lesson in there somewhere.” Burks says that there’s one lesson in particular that he learned from hunting hogs that can apply to playing the game of football:

“You have to game plan before you even go out there, so it takes time to game plan, know exactly where they’re going to be,” Burks said. “Then you have to make sure that you, just like how I wear gloves, but you have to put a vest and everything on the dogs, just to prepare them so they won’t get hurt.”

Burks is projected to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft that begins on Thursday, April 28. In Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft released Tuesday, Burks could be taken 19th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.
