Trevor Lawrence’s phone hilariously went to voicemail 3 times when the Jaguars tried to draft him

Trevor Lawrence didn’t pick up the phone for Jacksonville.

If the start to the 2021 NFL draft felt extremely weird to you, don’t worry — it wasn’t just you.

It took the Jaguars an inordinately long time to actually draft Trevor Lawrence despite just about everyone paying attention knowing that the former Clemson quarterback was going to be their guy.

It was definitely strange. And now, we have an explanation as to why.

The Jaguars released video of their draft night war room and in it we found out why it took them so long to actually draft Lawrence. The answer is actually pretty funny.

First, the NFL told them they had to wait 7 minutes before they actually made the pick and sent the card in. Okay. Sure. Understandable.

Here’s where it gets hilarious, though. They’d waited all that time but had never actually called Trevor Lawrence during it. So they didn’t let him know they were drafting him.

And when they finally called him and got ready to submit their card…the phone went to voicemail. THREE. TIMES.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan said Lawrence actually had them nervous.

“We were passed, like, the 6th minute when we were ready to turn it in. And then there was the set up…We started calling him getting a recording. And there, you’re seeing the clock tick away and we’re like ‘Let’s try it again.’ And we got the same recording. So after about 3 tries, you’re getting nervous.”

Man, that’s funny. But it all worked out, though. They eventually got Lawrence on the phone and the rest is history.

Now he’s a Jaguar. And he’s got a big future ahead of him. It’s all good.
