Trevor Lawrence: ‘The word to describe it is embarrassing’

“We’ve lost eight games this year, and never have I felt like we got embarrassed like we did today.”

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence minced no words after the team’s 40-14 loss to the Detroit Lions.

“It’s embarrassing honestly what we put out there in such a big game for us. I mean, that’s the word to describe it, it’s embarrassing,” Lawrence said. “I mean, this is a playoff game for us and we go out there and laid down. Credit to them, those guys, those guys whooped us.

“It’s just embarrassing, especially coming off a big win when you come out here and lay an egg. It just can’t happen. We’ve lost eight games this year, and never have I felt like we got embarrassed like we did today.”

It’s tough to fault Lawrence much for the loss, as the Jaguars’ second-year quarterback played relatively well Sunday. He finished with 179 passing yards, 32 rushing yards, and a passing touchdown. Lawrence wasn’t helped much by a receiving corps that dropped too many passes.

Most disappointing was the performance of the Jaguars defense that allowed Detroit to score on eight consecutive possessions. Only the Lions’ victory formation drive in the final minute ended without points.

It was the Jaguars’ fourth straight loss on the road with the team dropping to 1-6 on the year in games played outside of Jacksonville.

“I don’t think it has anything to do necessarily with playing on the road,” Lawrence said. “We just got our ass kicked, so it really doesn’t have anything to do with being on the road. But yeah, we have more road games this year than home games, so you’ve got to win your road games and we haven’t done that.”

The Jaguars will be on the road again in Week 14 when they travel to Nashville for a divisional game against the Tennessee Titans. Jacksonville also has road games against the New York Jets and Houston Texans still on the schedule.
