The Indianapolis Colts face this offseason needing to add a piece to the most important position in the game at the quarterback position and could very well do so during the 2021 NFL draft.
Though we are still months away from the draft, the quarterback position will be the topic of discussion for the Colts throughout the offseason. How they go about addressing the need will be interesting but the draft is a likely place for them to start.
Luke Easterling over at Draft Wire released his early quarterback rankings for the 2021 class under center.
- Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
- Justin Fields, Ohio State
- Zach Wilson, BYU
- Trey Lance, North Dakota State
- Mac Jones, Alabama
- Kyle Trask, Florida
- Jamie Newman, Georgia
- Kellen Mond, Texas A&M
- Sam Ehlinger, Texas
- Shane Buechele, SMU
Holding the No. 21 pick in the first round, it is highly unlikely the Colts will get a crack at the top three quarterbacks given how much the position gets pushed up nowadays.
It’s also unlikely a player like Lance will fall all the way to No. 21 so a trade-up is what would need to happen. It would take a lot to move up and it isn’t clear whether the Colts want to make that move just yet.
Regardless, the Colts have to address the quarterback position this offseason. They could very well bring in a veteran like Andy Dalton and draft a rookie seeing as Jacob Eason is the only one currently under contract at the position.
Whether they will have the chance to make a move for one in the draft remains to be seen, and it should make for an interesting offseason.
