The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence isn’t the best player in the NFL under the age of 25, according to Pro Football Focus, but he does reign supreme among the league’s youngest quarterbacks.
In a ranking of the top 25 players in the NFL under 25, Lawrence landed No. 18 on the list and was the only quarterback to earn a spot. Via PFF:
“Lawrence struggled during his rookie season, earning a 58.3 passing grade. But this past year (with an established NFL head coach), he jumped to a 74.1 passing grade. He finished with 26 big-time throws, 19 turnover-worth plays and a 77.7% adjusted completion percentage. It was a step in the right direction, one that allowed his arrow to continue pointing up with improvement still possible in all areas.”
The list only includes players who will still be 24 or younger when Week 1 of the 2023 regular season begins. That ruled out Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers and Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins, who both turned 25 in March, as well as Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, who turns 25 in August.
That didn’t leave much competition for Lawrence. Davis Mills of the Houston Texans and Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears are the only 2022 starters who will still be younger than 25 when next season begins.
The top spot on the list went to the Dallas Cowboys’ two-time All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons with Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, as runner-up.
