Kansas City Chiefs tight end (and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend) Travis Kelce has officially set up his first major movie role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kelce will star in a new buddy cop movie called Loose Cannons from producer Chad Stahelski, who directed the John Wick films, and writer Tim Dowling (Just Go With It).
The NFL superstar has been dipping his toes in the entertainment space over the last year, hinting that his football career might soon be coming to an end.
Kelce will soon appear on the Ryan Murphy FX horror series Grotesquerie and host a reboot of the game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? for Amazon Prime Video. He also hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live last year to try out his comedy chops.
Kelce also executive produced an independent comedy called My Dear Friend Zoe, which premiered at SXSW in March and hits theaters on Nov. 1.
THR describes the plot to Loose Cannons as a fun twist on the buddy cop formula.
The premise centers on how every police precinct, at least in this movie’s world, has a crazy, out of control, rule-breaking officer on staff. But rather than pair them with a straight arrow and by the book partner, the premise here is that unhinged person is paired with someone just as out of line as they are.
In Cannons, two loose cannons are forced to partner up after their precincts merge due to budget cuts and no one wants to work with them. The duo end up taking on the cases no one else can.
The script is described as having tones of Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys and Rush Hour, all landmarks in the buddy action comedy genres.
No director, production start date or release date has been announced, nor does Kelce have a co-star just yet. However, the film logistically won’t be able to start filming until the Chiefs star finishes the 2024-25 NFL season.
