Travis Kelce jumped into a scrum after Kadarius Toney got tackled in the Chiefs’ no-contact drills

Travis Kelce had his teammate’s back.

Tensions are bound to boil over at some point during training camp — even when practices are between the same team. But on Wednesday, we saw exactly why Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is among the team’s captains.

He has no problem standing up for his fellow offensive players.

The Chiefs were going through 11-v-11 drills in training camp, but it was clear that this was not a full-contact practice. Players were not in shoulder pads. They were wearing shorts and had helmet caps. The defense was supposed to touch the offensive player to mark them down, but George Karlaftis ignored that when Kadarius Toney caught a check-down pass near the sideline.

The Chiefs defensive end plowed through Toney who took exception with the hit and threw the ball at Karlaftis. Kelce then ran into the scrum to get into Karlaftis’ face. The session was no contact for a reason, and Karlaftis didn’t have an excuse for going at Toney like that.

As Kelce exchanged his words with Karlaftis, coaches managed to separate the sides before the scrum escalated into an actual fight.
