While some believe Travis Hunter will primarily focus on cornerback when he turns pro, Colorado football’s two-way star is still drawing comparisons to top NFL wide receivers.
Earlier this week, NFL.com analyst and former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah became the latest pundit to do so when he compared Hunter to New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Jeremiah wrote that Hunter’s post-catch abilities remind him of what Wilson displayed during his college career at Ohio State.
Here’s what Jeremiah wrote when comparing Hunter to Wilson:
I know this is lofty praise, but his movement skills and run-after-catch ability remind me of Garrett Wilson when he was coming out of Ohio State. I loved Wilson in the 2022 NFL Draft, viewing him as the best receiver (and No. 4 overall prospect) in his class. In two years with the New York Jets, the former No. 10 overall pick has been outstanding, producing a pair of 1,000-yard seasons despite some severe challenges at the quarterback position. I believe Wilson is on the cusp of being a top-five NFL wideout, if he’s not there already. I see similar traits and tools when Hunter is on the offensive side of the ball.
If Hunter stays healthy and produces another big season with the Buffs, he’ll likely follow in Wilson’s footsteps as a top-10 NFL draft pick. Will Hunter continue to play close to full-time both ways? Probably not, but any NFL team that doesn’t occasionally take advantage of his receiving skills would be wasting his generational abilities.
