Two depth pieces have left Rutgers football via the transfer portal over the past 24 hours. On Tuesday, backup quarterback Cole Snyder announced his decision to leave the program and on Wednesday, starting offensive lineman Brendan Bordner and reserve defensive back Naijee Jones did the same.

The trio are among the first scholarship players seeking a new opportunity.

The loss of Bordner, a starter for parts of the past two years at either offensive tackle position hurts Rutgers at a position of need. The line play was likely the weakest part of this year’s 5-7 team. Bordner came to the program as a defensive lineman where he spent the first two years of his career at Rutgers before switching to the offensive line.

It wasn’t a big surprise to see Snyder enter the portal given that he was likely going to be down on the depth chart at quarterback with the emergence of freshman Gavin Wimsatt as well as the solid performance from Evan Simon in the second half of the regular season finale against Maryland.

The same is true for Jones, who saw playing time diminish this year, playing in six games and registering just four tackles.

Also on Monday, running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive tackle Julius Turner announced they will be forgoing a final season and entering the NFL draft.
