Transfer portal target sets visit date to UNC basketball

A former West Virginia power forward has set an official visit date to Chapel Hill.

Things are moving in a hurry for the UNC basketball program and a target in the transfer portal. Just days after North Carolina contacted former West Virginia forward James Okonkwo, a report surfaced that he would be taking a visit to Chapel Hill.

And now we have the official date.

Per Okonkwo’s brother via Jon Rothstein, the power forward will be on North Carolina’s campus on July 24th for the official visit. The visit is later in the month due to Okonkwo being overseas trying out for the Great Britain U20 team that will play in the FIBA European Championships.

After Bob Huggins resigned as head coach, Okonkwo was one of a few players from West Virginia to enter the portal. Since then, he’s had multiple programs reach out to him. He will also take a visit to Texas A&M as well.

Okonkwo averaged  2.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 11 minutes per game in his first season with the WVU program. He appeared in 31 games last season.
