Transfer portal action continues as Florida pulls former UAB safety

Florida gets its fifth transfer portal addition in the form of safety Adrian Maddox, a former UAB Blazer.

Billy Napier added another player to the 2025 Florida football roster on Sunday according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, marking the fifth commitment through the transfer portal for the Gators this offseason.

Former Alabama-Birmingham Blazers safety [autotag]Adrian Maddox[/autotag], a 6-foot-3-inch, 200-pound junior originally out of Conyers, Georgia, officially entered the portal on Dec. 10 — a day after it opened — and made a trip to Gainesville before the start of the recruiting dead period. After visiting other schools, including the Georgia Bulldogs, he decided on the Orange and Blue for his next destination with one year of eligibility remaining.

Maddox spent the 2024 season in Birmingham after transferring there from the Alabama State Hornets. He recorded 44 tackles (30 solo, two for a loss) along with eight defended passes, two forced fumbles and a pick-six last fall; Pro Football Focus assigned him an 83.9% coverage grade stretching over nearly 400 snaps.

The defensive back originally committed to the Hornets during the 2022 recruiting cycle and played 21 games over two seasons in Montgomery. Maddox finished with 90 total tackles — 9.5 tackles for loss — along with three sacks, and two interceptions plus All-Conference mentions both seasons; he was named a Jerry Rice Award finalist in 2022.

Maddox joins former Michigan Wolverines punter Tommy Doman, former UCLA Bruins wide receiver J.Michael Sturdivant, former Charlotte 49ers quarterback Deshawn Purdie and former UMass Minutemen edge defender Kofi Asare as Florida’s transfer portal newcomers.
