On Sunday night, the story starts and ends with Steph Curry.
In Golden State’s 137-122 win over the Portland Trail Blazers at Chase Center, the two-time Most Valuable Player tallied a new career-high with 62 points on 18-of-31 shooting from the field with five boards and four assists in 36 minutes. In signature fashion, Curry knocked down eight triples on 16 attempts from beyond the arc.
With the clock ticking down in the fourth quarter, Curry knocked down a pair of signature deep 3-pointers to get to the 62 mark. Curry’s performance against Portland erased his previous career-high of 54 points that came against the New York Knicks in 2013. It was the seventh time in his career Curry notched 50 or more points.
It didn’t take long for Curry to heat up against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player got the Warriors off on the right foot, scoring 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.
Despite Curry’s franchise-record 80 consecutive made free throw streak coming to a close in the first quarter, the Golden State point guard set a new high-mark on Sunday.
Curry’s 62 points were good enough for a new scoring high at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Curry’s opponent Damian Lillard owned the previous high with 39 points against the Warriors on Nov. 5, 2019.
Lillard and CJ McCollum attempted to trade buckets with Curry in the second half, combining for 60 points against the Warriors. However, it wasn’t enough to keep up with Golden State’s six-time All-Star.
Coming off Curry’s impressive effort, the Warriors will host the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at Chase Center.
