He’s only played half a season for the San Antonio Spurs, but Victor Wembanyama already looks ready to take the team to the playoffs. And once he develops fully, he’s the type of player who can help the Spurs get back to winning championships like they did with Tim Duncan at the helm. But like everyone else, he can’t do it alone.
As the Spurs look to build around Wembanyama, they could move faster than initially expected. They were involved in some trade rumors ahead of this year’s deadline, and though they didn’t end up doing anything, they could be a team to watch in the trade market this summer.
At All-Star Weekend, Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young, who the Spurs have been connected to, was asked about what type of player Wembanyama needs next to him to succeed. His answer sparked some potential trade questions. (H/t Najee Adams of FanDuel)
“The kind of player that can help him win a championship. Make his job easier for him. Somebody who can just help him. That’s the type of player he needs around him.”
