Trade suggestion: Sixers move All-Star guard Ben Simmons to Spurs

A new trade suggestion has the Philadelphia 76ers moving Ben Simmons to the San Antonio Spurs.

The situation surrounding three-time All-Star Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers has been one to watch all offseason.

Since the Sixers were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs as Simmons suffered familiar offensive woes, his name has been involved in trade rumors and suggestions almost daily. That’s what happens when the team has decided it is looking in another direction.

There has been talk about Simmons potentially sitting out training camp to get a deal done, which would make things awkward around the team. One school of thought is the Sixers will get a deal done around the time training camp begins on Sept. 28.

A new trade suggestion put out by Bleacher Report has the Sixers moving Simmons to the San Antonio Spurs for Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, a 2022 first-round pick and a 2024 first-round pick.

B/R on why the Sixers would do this deal:

For Philly, this deal doesn’t net a star right now, but it gives a couple chances at one. And Murray and White can both help in the short-term pursuit of a title. The former has All-Defense ability on the perimeter. The latter spaces the floor far better than Simmons did. And both can create a little.

This is not the type of trade that president Daryl Morey will go for in a Simmons deal. He is going to swing for the fences, and he is going to go for the All-Star that he wants. The most likely scenario at this point is the embattled young star will begin the season with the Sixers and the team will revisit a trade.
