[autotag]Trackhouse Racing[/autotag] has not been shy to make bold moves and that was on display when the organization bought Chip Ganassi Racing’s operations starting in 2022. Then, PROJECT 91 came to the scene with Kimi Raikkonen and Shane van Gisbergen having success out of the gate. Now, the new-era race team is being linked to a rising NASCAR star.
According to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, Trackhouse Racing has talked to defending NASCAR Truck Series champion Zane Smith about a potential opportunity. The one issue is that Trackhouse Racing will likely not have a spot for Smith in the Cup Series due to its charter situation. Therefore, it could be a scenario where the race team leases Smith to another Cup or Xfinity Series team for next season.
If Trackhouse Racing were to pull off this stunning move, it would gain one of NASCAR’s best prospects and Ford’s best driver in its pipeline. Smith would be paired alongside Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez down the road as well. With Trackhouse Racing looking to expand in the future, this would be a great move to make until it can purchase another charter.
