Touchdown Wire scouts Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler

Touchdown Wire breaks down Oklahoma Sooners quarterback in their summer scouting series.

One of the top players to watch during the 2021 college football season will be Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler. Not only is he gearing up for a Heisman Trophy bid and a shot at the College Football Playoffs, but he is also a top prospect for the 2022 NFL draft.

Most analysts view him as the top quarterback along with North Carolina’s Sam Howell. The two passers possess incredible arms and will do well at the next level. Since his arrival in Norman, Oklahoma, Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley has produced three NFL starters: Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts. That is quite the accomplishment in just four seasons at the helm.

The fourth starter could and should be Spencer Rattler. The No. 1 quarterback in the 2019 recruiting cycle is ready for another opportunity in 2021. After a tough start to the 2020 season, his second-half leads you to believe Rattler is ready to take off.

As part of Touchdown Wire’s summer scouting series, Mark Schofield takes a look at the Oklahoma gunslinger.

Rattler is getting a ton of attention as a potential QB1 next cycle, and with good reason. Athleticism, confidence and the ability to create outside the pocket are desired traits at the next level. In this video we’ll dive into these traits, and also highlight areas where he can clean up his pocket management a bit:

Rattler does a number of things well as a quarterback, including his ability to create outside the pocket. If he improves at how well he handles things inside the pocket, he has the makings of QB1 next spring.
