While there is plenty of optimism around the Colts’ outlook for the 2020 season, Touchdown Wire predicted the same result as the previous year: A 7-9 finish while on the outside looking in.
Frank Reich got Philip Rivers for a year — at least. For his sake, the coach has to hope the veteran QB’s performance with the Chargers in 2019 isn’t going to be the start of a major slide.
The Colts got an upgrade at quarterback in Rivers, who already has a lot of familiarity in the offense being run by Reich. His 2019 numbers are concerning—there’s no way around that. But a better offensive line, run game and play-caller should give him the chance to improve significantly.
In the rest of the AFC South, Touchdown Wire has the Texans leading the division at 11-5 followed by the Titans at 9-7, the Colts at 7-9 and the Jaguars at 3-13.
Predicting the Colts’ outcome of the 2020 season is difficult. They have some tough matchups ahead, but the additions they made this offseason should put them in the position to win more games than last year. They were competitive with a poor season from Jacoby Brissett. An upgrade at quarterback and on the defensive side of the ball should give them the chance to compete for a playoff spot.
We’ll get a better idea about the season when the schedule comes out, and it will be interesting to see how the games play out when the campaign finally arrives.
