The Seattle Seahawks surprised fans around the nation when they opted to use their original first-round selection instead of trading back in the 2020 NFL Draft. At No. 27 overall, the Seahawks picked linebacker Jordyn Brooks out of Texas Tech – a name many hadn’t projected to Seattle, especially in round one.
For their efforts in the first round, USA TODAY’s Touchdown Wire gives the Seahawks a solid B grade.
“Death, taxes, and the Seahawks taking somebody nobody expected in the first round – if they don’t trade out,” K.D. Drummond writes. “If you had Brooks as a first-round guy and your name isn’t Pete Carroll or John Schneider, raise your hand?”
Most 12s weren’t raising their hands Thursday night, including Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling who gave the Seahawks a dismal C- grade for the pick.
While linebacker might not be an immediate need in Seattle, John Schneider and Pete Carroll opted for the best player available at the time, and Brooks fit the bill.
The Seahawks are set to pick twice in the second round and once in third Friday evening, but as usual, some trades could be in the works.
