Tory Taylor leads the way for the Iowa Hawkeyes among ESPN’s All-American team

Add another to the already long list. Iowa Hawkeyes punter Tory Taylor has been named to ESPN’s All-American Team. Plus, one oversight?

Tory Taylor has just about cemented himself among the legends of punting. Not just for the Iowa Hawkeyes, but for the entire collegiate world. His on-field talent is undeniable and paired with his Aussie personality, he is a fan favorite.

After being named to multiple All-American teams already, Taylor’s list has continued to grow. Most recently, ESPN named Tory Taylor as their First-Team All-American punter.

Taylor’s 86 punts lead the nation, and he’s third nationally with an average of 47.9 yards. His ability to flip field position, despite Iowa’s struggles on offense, was a big reason the Hawkeyes were able to win 10 games and get to the Big Ten championship game. Taylor leads the country with 32 punts downed inside the 20-yard line, and Iowa is third nationally in net punting at 43.6 yards per game. – Chris Low, ESPN

You name the category, Taylor was either leading it or right near the top. Everyone knows the joke that “punting is winning” and it took on a life of its own for the Hawkeyes. In all reality, is is also a very true and real statement. Taylor won many games for Iowa by setting his defense up with great success.

One potential oversight on this All-American team is where Cooper DeJean falls. DeJean was named an ESPN All-American, but it was as a Second-Team cornerback behind Michigan’s Mike Sainristil and Alabama’s Terrion Arnold.
