Blue Jays at Red Sox: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Tanner Roark vs. RHP Ryan Weber

Roark is 1-0 this season with a strong 1.80 ERA and five strikeouts, but he’s only made one start due to cancelations.

  • Roark has averaged 7.3 K/9 for his career. That number was higher in 2019 (8.6), and in his first start this season, he had five strikeouts in five innings.
  • Roark hasn’t pitched since July 28. In his career with 6-plus days rest, he’s 14-11 with a 3.57 ERA.

Weber has really struggled for the Red Sox this season, starting 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA.

  • Weber has yet to strike out a batter in 7 innings this season and has walked seven.
  • No pitcher in baseball has allowed more home runs than Weber’s four.

Prediction

Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Red Sox are shockingly favored in this one at -110, while the Blue Jays’ moneyline is an even +100. Toronto’s 4-6 record on the year is hardly impressive, but Boston is one of the worst teams in the league with a shaky pitcher on the hill.

You should feel confident taking the BLUE JAYS (+100) to win outright, especially at even money.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Blue Jays are giving up one run on BetMGM’s suggested run line, which isn’t much against a struggling Boston team. Toronto should be able to put up enough runs against the soft-tossing Weber, even if Roark struggles himself after the layoff.

I’m going with the BLUE JAYS -1 (+115), but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to go even further at -2 (+170) on the alternate line to raise the reward.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over/Under is 10.5 runs at -110 for both sides. Neither team’s bats have been particularly hot, and the total has gone Under in five of the Blue Jays’ last seven games. On Boston’s side, the total has gone Under in five of the last six.

Bet the UNDER 10.5 (-110) and hope things don’t spiral out of control for the two starters.
