It was a good year for Super Bowl commercials. For whatever reason the ad companies were on their game for the Big Game. So, let’s count down our top ten.
10. T-Mobile Anthony Anderson’s mama tests 5G
The ad features Anthony Anderson’s actual mom and you can see where Anthony gets his talent. She’s a funny lady. She tests her new phone’s 5G capabilities all over the place after Anthony switches her carrier over from Verizon.
9. Hint water Pie eating contest
Two guys can’t believe Hint water tastes more like the fruit in their pies than the pies do. This ad starts out as ‘ew’. But wait for it…
8. Amazon Before Alexa
Standard grand scale Super Bowl ad. It features Ellen DeGenerous and her wife Portia DeRossi as Ellen ponders what people did before Alexa and we are taken back in time to scenarios in which people may have given commands and asked questions of other people and things that which you might with Alexa. Hilarity ensues.
7. Mt Dew Zero Calorie The Shining
Can’t go wrong with Bryan Cranston as he acts out scenes from the classic horror film The Shining with Mt Dew Zero Calorie everywhere.
6. Doritos The Cool Ranch
Lil Nas X and Sam Elliott in an old west dance off. Nuff said.
5. Cheetos Can’t Touch This
Guy finds out that when he eats Cheetos popcorn, people don’t ask him to handle things. Driving the point home is MC Hammer who appears like a magical sprite to sing ‘Can’t Touch This’.
4. Jeep Groundhog Day
Bill Murray and a couple other character actors from the classic comedy Groundhog Day appear in this ad. But this time, the twist is Punxsutawney Phil is in a Jeep. And that’s where their adventure begins. Two words: Groundhog, Baby Bjorn. Ok, that’s three, but whatever.
3. Hyundai Smaht Pahk
Chris Evans, John Krasinksi, Rachel Dratch, and David Ortiz show off their wicked awesome Bahston accents, seemingly taking off from the SNL sketches from back in the day with Dratch and Jimmy Fallon. Presumably hoping the New England Patriots would make the Super Bowl again. And since they didn’t, it actually makes the commercial even funnier because it wasn’t accompanied by the disgust that the Patriots were in the Super Bowl again.
2. Rocket Mortgage Home
Jason Mamoa is the best. He’s also an extremely large “Mountain” of a man. Or at least he is when he’s away from home. At home he can be himself. Which apparently is a very different guy altogether.
1. Kia Tough Never Quits
Yeah, yeah. A site that covers the Raiders telling you the commercial that featured Raiders rookie phenom running back Josh Jacobs is in the best commercial of this year’s Super Bowl. Well, this is objectively the best commercial.
