After a 35-34 loss to Louisville in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl on New Year’s Eve, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies are looking to start 2025 off with a bang. A commitment from the No. 1 cornerback in the transfer portal would certainly qualify in that department.
On Wednesday morning, Fisch’s coaching staff landed a crystal ball from 247Sports’ Greg Biggins to reel in a commitment from former Arizona standout Tacario Davis.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound corner, who is ranked as the No. 13 overall player in the transfer portal, is expected to take a visit to Seattle over the weekend after he was recruited and developed by Washington cornerbacks coach John Richardson in the two years they spent together at Arizona.
Davis, who was named to the Second Team All-Big 12 in 2024, thrived during his time with Richardson. In 2023, he was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention despite being tied for No. 3 in the nation with 16 pass breakups.
The cornerback appears to be mulling his final season of eligibility versus the NFL, where he is projected to be selected in the top two rounds of April’s draft if he chooses to enter, but Fisch’s coaching staff is likely giving him a hard sell.
With defensive coordinator Ryan Walters expected to assume the position, Davis would be a great fit for his scheme. The former Purdue head coach and Illinois defensive coordinator loves to leave his cornerbacks on islands in single coverage, where the long, aggressive Davis is at his best.
