The LSU Tigers signed the best tight end in the country in the class of 2020 when Arik Gilbert, the No. 5 overall player in his class, picked LSU.

Gilbert is expected to start at tight end for the defending national champions this fall.

LSU also signed another intriguing tight end prospect in 6-foot-7, 230-pound Kole Taylor.

Despite signing a strong tight end class one year ago, the Tigers are aggressive in their pursuit of some of the top tight end prospects in the class of 2021, too.

Thomas Fidone, the No. 1 tight end in this class, recently chose Nebraska over LSU.

With Fidone off the board, another top LSU target is ready to make his decision and the Tigers appear to be in a great position.

Jalen Shead, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound prospect from Olive Branch High in Olive Branch, Miss., has announced he will be making his college choice on Sunday.

Shead will choose between LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama.

He recently spoke with David Johnson of 247Sports and holds the defending national champions in high regard.

LSU, in their new offense, they use the tight end a bunch. They pass the ball and use the tight ends for run sets and power and stuff like that. They obviously utilize my position a lot. They’re not really that deep at tight end. I’m kind of a priority for them at that position. They’ve recruited me probably the hardest out of everybody. I talk to them at least once every two days, pretty often, so that’s why they made the top three.

The Tigers enter Sunday as the presumed favorite for Shead’s services.
