The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have brought in a premier edge rusher on a visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.
Iowa’s Lukas Van Ness posted on Instagram that he was outside Tampa Bay’s AdventHealth Training Center on Monday, indicating that the team has brought him in for a visit. Van Ness is considered one of the draft’s top EDGE prospects in the upcoming draft.
Van Ness may not be there when the Bucs are set to pick on April 27, but the team wouldn’t be wrong to select him if he is. Van Ness is rated as the fifth-best EDGE in the class by The Draft Network and the No. 28 prospect in the draft overall. Their scouting report notes that he has good strength and a high motor, but has a lack of experience that could be troublesome at the NFL level.
The Bucs could use an EDGE with the uncertainty behind Shaq Barrett’s upcoming return and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka’s uneven play across his last two years. Whether Van Ness is the answer or not won’t be known until draft night.
