Top 40 recuit calls UNC basketball program a ‘dream school’

The UNC basketball program was called a ‘dream school’ for this Top 40 recruit in the 2026 class.

Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels are off to an 8-3 start this year after beating Oklahoma on a neutral court. As UNC has a bit of a layover between now and their next game, some recruiting news has started to trickle in.

Class of 2026 Deron Rippey Jr. is one of the top sophomore prospects and is starting to gain some interest from a handful of programs. He currently has 14 offers but most recently, Rippey Jr. gained some interest from a pair of his ‘dream schools.’

The recruit told Charlie Parent of Zag’s Blog that he’s recently heard from two of his dream schools — UNC and UConn.

“UNC and UConn are my two dream schools,” he told ZAGSBLOG at Friday’s NJ Hoop Recruit Classic. “It’s pretty interesting to hear from them and really exciting as well.”

Rippey Jr. holds offers from  Syracuse, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M and St. John’s, among others so far in his recruitment.

It’s still very early in the recruitment for the 6-foot, 170-pound New Jersey native but it’s a good sign that UNC is getting involved early on.
