The LSU Tigers signed an impressive tight end class in 2020.

Arik Gilbert, the No. 1 tight end in the country and No. 5 overall player, per 247Sports, are players who will help the Tigers this fall — if we have football.

Head coach Ed Orgeron also signed 6-foot-7, 228-pound Kole Taylor. Overall, it was an impressive haul.

Now, the defending national champions are hard at work for the nation’s top tight end in 2021.

Thomas Fidone, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end prospect from Lewis Central High in Council Bluffs, Iowa, is set to visit Baton Rouge on Sept. 12, per Shea Dixon of 247Sports.

Fidone is the No. 38 overall player and No. 1 tight end per 247Sports’ in-house rankings.

For the Tigers to be a finalist in Fidone’s recruitment is a major coup for Orgeron and his staff. The Hawkeyes generally keep top prospects home and have had quite the success in developing tight ends in recent years.

George Kittle, TJ Hockenson and Noah Fant all starred at tight end for the Hawkeyes in recent years and are now stars in the NFL.

The NCAA dead period is set to expire in August, opening the door for Fidone and his family to visit.

Fidone is a big fan of LSU.

“I like LSU a lot,” Fidone said to 247Sports back in June. “They obviously do a great job developing their players. They just won a National Championship and every year the SEC runs college football. That’s how it is almost every year, an SEC team wins the National Championship. It’s a different place down in the SEC and I like that.”

LSU currently has the No. 4 ranked class in 2021.
