The LSU Tigers pulled off quite a haul at tight end in the 2020 class.
Five-star Arik Gilbert, the No. 5 overall player in the class, is expected to start at tight end this season. LSU also reeled in 6-foot-7, 228-pound Kole Taylor in the 2020 class.
Now, the Tigers are busy trying to land more elite tight ends in the class of 2021.
On Monday, Jalen Shead, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end from Olive Branch High in Olive Branch, Miss., announced his final three schools and included the defending national champions on his list.

Shead is a quickly rising player who has 20 offers, many of which have come this summer. LSU offered on June 17, while Alabama offered on June 11.
The Tigers are now in the final group of three top-ranked tight ends for the class of 2021.
No. 1 tight end, Thomas Fidone, has LSU in his final group, while four-star Michael Trigg also has the Tigers in his final three.
Shead visited Baton Rouge last year and checked out the team’s facilities before he had an offer. Now, he is developing a good relationship with the coaching staff, per Shea Dixon of 247Sports.

They did an evaluation on me, and their whole staff gave me a call. That’s when Coach O offered me. He told me to play at LSU you have to be a dog. Coach O told me that you have to be dedicated to have a chance to play for his team. That’s what he saw of me on film. He loved how hard I work and the mentality I play.
Shead didn’t announce a commitment date and has indicated he would prefer to take visits before he makes his final decision.
