Top 100 recruit chooses Penn State over Washington

The Washington Huskies saw one of their biggest targets at defensive back come off the board on Monday morning.

Daryus Dixson, the nation’s No. 11 cornerback and No. 96 overall player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports, announced his commitment to Penn State over Washington and Tennessee on Monday. He committed to playing in Happy Valley just one day after returning from his official visit.

The product of Santa Ana, California comes from powerhouse Mater Dei High School, which has produced 2022 No.1 overall pick Bryce Young and Detroit Lions star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown among others. It also holds three-star quarterback and Washington commit Dash Beierly, who took his visit to Seattle alongside Dixson.

He took an official visit to Seattle over the May 31 weekend, alongside 15 other high-profile targets of Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff, and was also on campus for an unofficial visit during the spring game on May 3.

He was also set to take an official visit to Tennessee on June 14 but has canceled that trip following his commitment.

“Just the connection I made with the coaches over the weekend, really felt like home,” Dixson told 247Sports’ Blair Angulo about why he chose the Nittany Lions. “Their vision is to have me outside and in the slot covering people and what excites me about their plan is how versatile I’m going to be on a big stage.”

Angulo went on to call Dixson’s commitment to Penn State a “come from behind effort” for James Franklin’s coaching staff, signaling that Washington may have had the upper hand in his recruitment before the weekend.
