The Colorado Buffaloes suffered their second loss of the season last week and now play the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday in Tuscon. I once believed the Buffs would struggle in this game, but because of how both teams have played, it now looks like a winnable matchup for the Buffs.
The Buffs played the Wildcats hard at Folsom Field last year. They were tied or held the lead for all 60 minutes, only to see the game-winning field goal go through the uprights with zeros on the clock. Arizona’s potent offense has fallen on hard times this season, with quarterback Noah Fifita taking a step back from his breakout 2023 season.
Arizona was never considered a top defensive team in the Big 12, even though it does have playmakers on that side of the ball. The Wildcats have also suffered numerous injuries in their defensive backfield, a position group where a team must be healthy when facing quarterback Shedeur Sanders and the Buffs’ receiving threats.
If last year was a near miss for the Buffs, Saturday’s matchup should leave no doubt.
Final score prediction: Colorado beats the Wildcats in Tucson, 35-21.
