Tony Vitello named ABCA National Coach of the Year

Tony Vitello named ABCA National Coach of the Year after leading Vols to national title.

Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello was named American Baseball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year on Wednesday.

Vitello was honored after guiding Tennessee to its first national championship in school history.

The Vols (60-13, 22-8 SEC) defeated Texas A&M (53-14, 19-11 SEC), 6-5. on Monday to win the 2024 College World Series at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha. Tennessee.

Tennessee has reached the College World Series in three of the last four seasons. The Vols became the first No. 1 overall seed to win a national championship since Miami accomplished the feat in 1999.

The Vols won both the SEC regular-season title, along with Kentucky, and the SEC Tournament championship. Tennessee also set a single-season school and conference record for wins.

Over the last four seasons, under Vitello’s leadership, the Vols have won 211 games and four combined SEC titles. Vitello recently completed his seventh season as the Vols’ head coach.
