Graduate student Zane Denton announced his return to Tennessee on Aug. 5.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Denton appeared in 66 games for the Vols in 2023. He recorded 16 home runs, 59 RBIs, 43 runs, 46 walks, one stolen base and a .269 batting average last season.
Denton transferred to Tennessee from Alabama ahead of the 2023 campaign.
The Vols opened fall practices on Thursday. Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello met with media and discussed Denton returning for the 2024 season.
“I think for Zane Denton, the first thing you got to do is reflect on what he did last year,” Vitello said. “Our team really came close together at the end and he was a big part of that.
“This year, the first couple scrimmages, I know he won’t be a part of. He’s handling some things that he has to, but again, like last year he’s been able to manage a lot in his life on and off the field and done very well at it. I think the fact that he’s in a supportive environment here, it’s kind of helped him progress the way that he has.”
