CBS analyst Tony Romo is back to acting like a football prophet.
Romo’s rise to prominence as the premier play-by-play analyst came with his impressive ability to predict the outcome of plays (and other things) before they happened.
But recently, Romo gave predicting the Super Bowl LV matchup a try. After the the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 27-24, in Week 12, Romo made a tentative prediction.
“Do you want me to make a slight guess here? I think there’s a better-than-good chance — I don’t know what even that percentage is — that these two teams are gonna’ be here in Tampa (for the Super Bowl),” Romo said immediately after the final whistle on Nov. 29.
That was exactly what we were seeing as the Chiefs held a late lead in the AFC Championship Game against the Bills: a Super Bowl matchup between Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

It wasn’t his most confident prediction. But it was pretty bold, considering the Buccaneers were 0-2 against their division rival, the New Orleans Saints — and that many people thought the NFC Champion would have to win at Lambeau.
But the Bucs upset the Saints and the Green Bay Packers on their path to Tom Brady’s 10th Super Bowl appearance. The Chiefs, meanwhile, would be in the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season after winning last year. And Romo called it early.
