Tom Brady says first look at free agency involves ‘a lot of patience’

What comes next for Tom Brady? Not even he knows.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is headed for vacation at what must be one of the most stressful moments of his career.

He’s a pending free agent, and can sign with any NFL team on March 18. It would be his first chance to hit free agency in his 20-year career. In the meantime, Bill Belichick and the Patriots can attempt to negotiate an extension — and talks reportedly began in a recent phone conversation between Brady and Belichick. It does not seem, however, like the Patriots have made an offer to extend Brady.

During a conversation with UFC president Dana White on an Instagram Live this week, Brady reflected upon his mindset ahead of free agency.

“It’s been a lot of patience for me,” Brady said. “And obviously, being where I’ve been for 20 years, it’s been an amazing experience. I don’t know what the future holds. Right now, I’m just trying to be patient through this process. It’s my first time going through it. In the meantime, I’m going to spend a lot of time with my family over the next 10 to 12 days. We have a little vacation planned, which I’m looking forward to.”

It wouldn’t be a bad idea for Brady to take time away from his phone, while his agent Don Yee works with the Patriots. When free agency rolls around, Brady will be relaxed and rested enough to make the best decision for him. In the meantime, the NFL world will wait impatiently for his and the Patriots’ decision.
